One of the great things about Nirvana to me are the lyrics, Kurt may have said how lyrics come secondary to the music though he still has some amazing lyrics, this song is a great show of this point.

9: You Know You're Right

Don't be fooled by the extremely quiet interlude, because this song can pack a punch. It builds up in tiers and reaches a zenith point during the final chorus and holds you there for a good minute or so.

8: Milk It

A song that I didn't much care for to begin with but it has grown on me impressively. I love the lyrics and their unique style that is represented within this song.

7: Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle

Though I don't really understand why the title needs to be so damn long, comic value? Well the song sounds immense and has some very good lyrics to match.

6: Heart-Shaped Box

Iconic, simply iconic, one of the most famous Nirvana songs ever, and for good reason. Memorable riff, great vid, great chorus, this is an overall, great song with great lyrics.

5: Ain't It A Shame (Demo)

This is a good upbeat quick song that truly shows the bi-polar nature of the band and the one ends extreme. This song rivets to you and doesn't let go until the ride is over.

4: Pennyroyal Tea

Here we have the opposite to the latter. More of a journey then a ride, an emotional one that speaks of pain and turmoil. This shows the true side of Nirvana in my humble opinion.

3: Polly

Much like the latter though written and performed in a much more ethereally beautiful way. The (New Wave) version is good though it lacks what makes this song so truly special.

2: D-7

This song very successfully blends the bi-polar natures of Nirvana, beginning slow and meaningful before taking it up a few notches. This usually fails for as it is very hard to do well, D-7 however manages it perfectly. Oh and did I mention the lyrics? They are amazing once again, though not as much as the next song, the best Nirvana song in my opinion.

The most beautifully written and meaningful Nirvana song ever to be performed. Sang in such a way that you may at first wander what is being said, but you will realise with time that the lyrics demand such emotion to be put into the song though only Kurt can pull this off and reveal the true beauty of the song.

This song is about "emo's" and Slipknot's feelings towards these people. Saying how pathetic and unimportant their plights are. Whilst they moan and attention seek about everything in their lives Corey moves on, even fights back. The ideal of "fighting back" being key to Slipknot, rather than other bands that cater for the previously mentioned audience, Slipknot always have a more "deal with it" or "do something about it" approach.

"The whole world is my enemy, and im a walking target" This is a principle held by Emo's and he later says how he feels this is simply a fad and that people want to fit in.

The chorus is entirely about the band, saying that they are against these people and are possibly the only voice standing against them. It also reiterates the fact that he has had issues in his life and yet they feel the need to constantly beleaguer people with there problems.

Top 10: Rammstein

10: Moskau.

Moskau is one of my favourites for many reasons. The Russian in the song sounds amazing, when sung by either Till or Tatu and has the coveted "catchienes" that is extremely hard to get across to mix language audiences. It also has the energetic break down at the end that really emits passion and effort.

9: Sonne.

One of the biggest staples in Rammstein's resumaé, sonne has the power, the vocal brilliance and the lyrical prowess that has become a trait to the band. The last verse sounds pretty awesome to be fair :P

8: Mutter.

This song would probably be a bit cringe-worthy if it were to be English due to its subject matter, however it manoeuvres through this mine field of a topic well and is dare I say it, enrapturing.

7: Rein Raus.

This is a very tongue in cheek take on a commonly explored subject. It has great lyrics and also a very good sound to it, Rammstein have once again managed to make a song that is easy for people who don't speak German to pick up.

6: Keine Lust.

An hilarious song that fits perfectly within their "jokey" take on music. And the twist at the end really keeps you interested lyrically and musically.

5: Mein Teil (Single Version)

This song is about a German man who slaughtered and ate a willing victim. Not the beginnings of a great song I know, but when you listen to the song and read the lyrics, which are from the point of view of the willing victim, you will realise just how great a song this really is.

4: B********

Its different! :O But I hate that? don't I? usually yes I do, though this has changed for the better, if that's possible, and so I feel it is truly one of their greatest songs ever, though other Rammstein fans will feel it is their worst, it's kinda the musical mustard :/

3: Engel (Extended Version)

Out of all the versions to choose this is by far the best. Lyrically and musically it is sound. I mean, it even rhymes in English :O That must have been hard to write :s

Funny, powerful and energetic to the max, this song has it all, and it has it just right, these traits are not exemplified by any other song. So how is this number two rather then one? I hear you ask, well, you shall find out ;)

The lyrics within the brackets are sang by "Clown". This song was written before the band was named "slipknot" and Joey Jordison, who was not a member of the band at the time, later suggested that this be the name of the band. The idea was accepted before the album was released due to it being under the name, "slipknot". 

Many songs from this album were re-written and performed by the new members of slipknot, this was no exception, It was changed drastically and became the song "(sic)".

M.F.K.R and all of the murder dolls songs were about an rpg board game that the members would play. It was in fact the entire idea behind the band forming in the first place and many of the songs are directly pertaining to this game. (None of the new slipknot songs are about this game however, song lyrics and meaning were changed.) Thus the lyrics in this song may seem random and nonsensical however if you were to play the game then im sure it would make sense.

Introduction :D

This is evidentially my blog on music. I shall post lyrics, song meanings, favourite bands/artists, favourite songs and possibly more.

Some lyrics will be debatable though I can only give you my opinion on them and im pretty sure that the vast majority are correct. Some lyrics you will not be able to find anywhere else on the internet (I know, I've tried) and so I will attempt to do my best there also.

Also the song meanings are ultimately only my opinion based mainly on the lyrics though some are based on others opinions that I have seen and figured that they make enough sense.

Music History

Until I was about 13 I never really bothered or cared much about music, It was all rubbish to me, though that was probably because most of what I heard was the stuff on the radio and what my parents liked. My brothers on the other hand were into music, so before school I would hear bands like puddle of mud, rammstein, slipknot, etc etc. I would listen to them but only if my brothers were. These kind of bands became embedded and would become important later on ;)

At the age of about 13 my brother played the album "NIRVANA" by nirvana after school one day. I liked it due to it being different, upbeat and vocally idiosyncratic. A few days later I decided to put it on, this being the first real time that I had chosen to put any music on myself and so this quickly decimated my old opinion on music. Shortly after this I had a song stuck in my head, though I hadn't a clue what it was, though fortunately my older brother heard me muttering the song later that night and said it was "Duality-Slipknot" and so I headed over to youtube where I began listening to that and all the other songs I could recall from the years gone by. Slipknot quickly became a favourite of mine though when I got my first MP3 player they weren't present due to me not owning any of their albums/singles. By the time I did have there songs I would tread carefully through their albums only listening to songs that I knew. I had a very callow and tentative attitude towards them and unknown songs, I still however have a semblance of this attitude left in me. █ So at this time I had two main bands that have not changed or been topped since, Nirvana, and slipknot, though I can never decide which one I prefer, and so they are both my favourite band.

Slowly I began listening to the vast majority of musicians that I used to hear every morning. Some of these have been riveted into my musical vitaé (Rammstein, KoRn, Drowning Pool), others seemed slightly lack-lustre on iteration (Mushroom Head, Offspring, Limp bizkit) and there are probably more that I am yet to rediscover. (erm......) A monolithic proportion of the bands I listen to are passed down from my brothers, this has caused me to have a somewhat eclectic musical taste; Linkin Park, Marilyn Manson, Editors, KOL, and preliminarily mentioned bands. Though it doesn't stop there, I must admit to liking SOME of the stuff that I hear on the radio, people like; Duffy or Amy Winehouse for example. Though my taste in music shall be revealed to you as I will mostly only write about songs I like.

With a lot of the bands that my brothers liked I went that step further, where they had listened to the songs that were released I began listening to all the songs and introducing them. So the foundation of what I listen to is there's, the bulk is of my own sleuthing.

This seems to be all I can think of for now though I will probably update this a tad more if I remember something that I have missed.
